John James Audubon was a daring and colorful character renowned for his adventurous nature, his artistic genius, and his obsessive interest in birds. Learn about his life by reading “John James Audubon -The American Woodsman: Our Namesake and Inspiration”. He explored the natural history of much of the central and eastern United States, painted almost 500 species of the 700 or so regularly occurring North American species, worked tirelessly to promote his project, and set a new standard for artistry and printing. Perhaps above all else, Audubon was a lover and observer of birds and nature.

Scott Saw creates vibrant, energetic paintings where dreams and current surroundings cross-pollinate with childhood memories and subconscious interpretations of the afterlife. His work entangles birth, life and death and explores the relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds. Saw’s paintings have been regarded as romanticized gothic landscapes of nature, misfits and oddities.

Fantastic imagination…
Carey Thompson grew up on the east coast in Virginia and North Carolina. He then traveled throughout the western United States ending up in New Mexico where he spent a year creating a core resonance with the American southwest. Afterwards, Carey embarked on a four-year adventure throughout Central America harnessing the winds of synchrocicity.

Exploring countless natural power spots and Mesoamerican sacred sites, he developed a keen interest in ancient cultures and their expression through the arts and cosmology. Desiring a more rooted foundation, Carey landed in the beautiful lands of Costa Rica where he spent a few years tapping deep into the currents of Gaian creation. Copious amounts of surfing and jungle trekking activated his being to near saturation point as he continued to channel this energy into creativity. He currently resides in San Francisco, California where he now focuses on his artistic endeavors. Carey describes his work as holomorphic transmission vision crystals.
The imagery channels through, sourced from the universal matrix, and crystallizes into form onto templates based on sacred geometry and other patterns of nature. Beginning usually with only a seed of intention, the color and form evolve unconsciously to create the finished art. Revealing the interconnectedness of all things is the primary intention of Carey’s artwork.

Nice pictures.
All I remember is sitting on a couch at an art school Halloween party in 1994 and seeing this ear-to-ear grin in the middle of the living room dancing a crazy jig. The fact that he had the best Popeye costume I had ever seen only added to the humor of the moment. This picture in my head came flooding back to me recently when I was hanging out with him after not seeing him much for a few years. I had to laugh out of surprise and relay the memory to him just to see his reaction. I couldn’t believe I had forgotten the first time I became aware of his existence. He laughed, although a bit soberly. He had become such different person since then, yet there is so much of him that is the same.

Amazing art; i love these pictures…
Where does David get his ideas?
This is always a difficult question to answer. The best ideas always spring from sources unknown. But certainly ones milieu and interests play a part. David is an avid film and theater goer. (His favorite contemporary playwrights are Tom Stoppard and Harold Pinter.) He also loves Shakespeare and attends the Ashland Shakespeare Festival every year. He listens to music while he paints (from Mozart to Gershwin to Randy Newman) and he is an avid reader (favorite authors include Samuel Beckett, John Cheever, Edith Wharton, and Alan Bennett.) These influences often find their way into his paintings. Typically, he hears a phrase in a play or a passage of music and feels compelled to translate the idea into a visual form. But, his creative process is very organic and often his finished paintings are quite different from his original conceptions.

These are very powerful!
A talented artist of vision and technique, Steve A Roberts is entirely self-taught in his skills. This he did by studying the works of his childhood heroes – legendary fantasy artists like Frank Frazetta and The Brothers Hildebrandt.

Steve received his only formal training, when he sat in on classes at the Ringling School Of Art. He was born in central Florida, in a little town called Palmetto, a stones throw from the Gulf of Mexico. He began drawing like most artist as a young child. Later he spent twelve years in Alaska, a place that had all ways stirred in his imagination.
