Intricate geometric paperclip sculptures

Art Date Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

I build modular geometric sculptures using paperclips and other office supplies (really).
Paperclips are a wonderful medium to work in as they are very portable and inexpensive.
I’ve been meaning to update paperclipart.com with new pictures and more info for way too long…

Take a look around and enjoy Justin Schlecter’s portfolio of intricate geometric paperclip sculptures.

Coffee is an interesting medium to create art

Art Date Saturday, November 5th, 2005

Andy and Angel have been painting with coffee for several years, and have completed hundreds of original artworks.
Curious people who view the work are amazed that the artwork is painted entirely in coffee - no additives, just 100% pure coffee.

Artists have been using coffee as washes for sketches and other shading for some time, but this is one of the first times where a process is used to gain very dark hues.

People ask what we do to achieve this darkness, all we can say is that it takes a special process and it is our secret formula.

Bonsai - The millennia-old art form, still going strongly today!

Art Date Tuesday, November 1st, 2005

In Japanese, bonsai can be literally translated as ‘tray planting’ but since originating in Asia, so many centuries ago - it has developed into a whole new form. To begin with, the tree and the pot form a single harmonious unit where the shape, texture and colour of one, compliments the other. Then the tree must be shaped. It is not enough just to plant a tree in a pot and allow nature to take its course - the result would look nothing like a tree and would look very short-lived. Every branch and twig of a bonsai is shaped or eliminated until the chosen image is achieved. From then on, the image is maintained and improved by a constant regime of pruning and trimming.

Here’s a nice website with great bonsai art:

bonsai art

Bonsai at its highest level is a fine art. But fine art begins with great craft. Westerners aspiring toward bonsai art excellence would do well to follow the craftsmanship found in excellent bonsai examples.
This presentation, the second in a series, showcases excellent bonsai from the very best artists in the world.
I sincerely hope you enjoy them.
